Abstract
Abstract: In a pilot study the tranquilizer Mepiprazol was tested using a double blind crossover design against placebo. The subjects were hospitalized schizophrenics, who had been treated with neuroleptics for a long time. The pilot study proved a good compatibility of Mepiprazol concerning important body functions. In the double blind design there were taken into consideration above all vegetative and affective disturbances, which could be regarded as a consequence of the illness, of the treatment with neuroleptics and of the hospitalism. According to the results of this study Mepiprazol influences the considered symptoms. Concerning such symptoms as disturbance of contact, anxiety, irritability, tension, brooding and insomnia a definite change for the better could be demonstrated. On the oder hand there were symptoms of tiredness and reduction of activity as the result of Mepiprazol treatment.
